Dr Behrad Gholipour, is Assistant Professor of Photonics at the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at the University of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada, where he established and leads the Alberta Metal-Chalcogenide Manufacturing Facility (AM2F) and the Nanoscale Optics Lab (www.nanoscaleoptics.com). He is widely recognized for his seminal work in the design and manufacturing of reconfigurable nanoscale free-space and integrated optoelectronic devices using chalcogenide and perovskite semiconductors. His work has resulted in >100 peer reviewed journal and conference publications, including multiple high profile publications in Science, Nature Materials, Nature Photonics, Nature Communications and Advanced Materials journals, many of which have been chosen as magazine cover articles. He is also the holder of one US patent and a frequent referee for >10 leading publications in nanotechnology, optoelectronics, material science and physics.
His research has over the years also gained high public interest as evident by the many news articles published about his work in trade and day-to-day magazines, websites and blogs including Yahoo news, Physics World, Engadget, Electronics Weekly and Science Daily.
He is also the recipient of the UK ICT Pioneer and Petro-Canada Young Innovator awards. He serves as an editorial board member of the IOP Journal of Optics and Wiley Advanced Photonics Research and a member of the program committee of SPIE Metamaterials conference. He is also a frequent organizer of various symposia and has served as guest-editor for a number of nanotechnology, materials and optics journals. FES Funded ProjectsOutputs

Asymmetric transmission in nanophotonicsT12-Q02 University of Alberta | Publication | 2023-04-10 | | Roadmap for phase change materials in photonics and beyondPhase Change Materials (PCMs) have demonstrated tremendous potential as a platform for achieving diverse functionalities in active and reconfigurable micro-nanophotonic devices across the electromagnetic spectrum, ranging from terahertz to visible frequencies. This comprehensive roadmap reviews the material and device aspects of PCMs, and their diverse applications in active and reconfigurable micro-nanophotonic devices across the electromagnetic spectrum. It discusses various device configurations and optimization techniques, including deep learning-based metasurface design. The integration of PCMs with Photonic Integrated Circuits and advanced electric-driven PCMs are explored. PCMs hold great promise for multifunctional device development, including applications in non-volatile memory, optical data storage, photonics, energy harvesting, biomedical technology, neuromorphic computing, thermal management, and flexible electronics.T12-Q02 University of Alberta | Publication | 2023-10-20 | Abbas Sheikh Ansari, Gholipour, B., "Patinharekandy Prabhathan ", Kandammathe Valiyaveedu Sreekanth, "Jinghua Teng ", Joo Hwan Ko, Young Jin Yoo, "Hyeon-Ho Jeong ", "Yubin Lee ", "Shojun Zhang ", "Tun Cao ", "Cosmin-Constantin Popescu ", "Brian Mills ", "Tian Gu ", Zhuoran Fang Fang Zhuoran, "Rui Chen ", "Hao Tong ", "Yi Wang ", "Qiang He ", "Yitao Lu ", "Zhiyuan Liu ", "Han Yu ", Avik Mandal, "Yahao Cui ", "Viraj Bhingardive ", "Myungkoo Kang ", Choon Kong Lai, "Moritz Merklein ", Maximilian J Müller, " Young Min Young Min Young Min Young Min Song, "Zhen Tian " | Asymmetric transmission and variable beam splitting using coherently coupled all-dielectric grating-insulator-grating (GIG) metamaterialsT12-Q02 University of Alberta | Publication | 2024-09-16 | | Roadmap on Chalcogenide PhotonicsT12-Q02 University of Alberta | Publication | 2023-01-23 | Gholipour, B., Avik Mandal, "Yihao Cui ", Stephen R Elliott, Maximilian J Müller, "Matthias Wuttig ", Daniel W Hewak, Brian E Hayden, " Yifei Yifei Li, Seong Soon Jo, "Rafael Jaramillo ", Robert E Simpson, "Junji Tominaga ", Benjamin J Eggleton, "Martin Rochette ", "Mohsen Rezaei ", "Imtiaz Alamgir ", Hosne Mobarok Shamim, "Robi Kormokar ", "Arslan Anjum ", Gebrehiwot Tesfay Zeweldi, Tushar Sanjay Karnik, "Juejun Hu ", Safa O Kasap, " George George Belev, "Alla Reznik " |
