Microwave-assisted removal of organic solvent from oil sands gangueA method and system are provided for removing an organic solvent from a gangue comprising the organic solvent, bitumen and mineral solids comprising sand and clay particles. The gangue may be a mixture produced by a solvent-based process using the organic solvent for extracting bitumen from an oil sands ore, where the organic solvent in the mixture is residual from the solvent-based process. If necessary, water is added to the gangue so that the gangue has a water content greater than 0 wt% by weight of the mineral solids. The gangue with the water content is exposed to microwaves to heat the gangue and thereby vaporize at least a portion of the organic solvent from the gangue. Comparison between the kinetics of cyclohexane absorption and desorption for heterogeneous bitumen nanofilmsWe report that the substrate hydrophilicity also affects the cyclohexane desorption kinetics for nanoscale bitumen films. And we compare the cyclohexane absorption and desorption kinetics in detail. One interesting observation about the data was that under certain conditions, mass uptake was observed in the early stage of the desorption experiments.
