Project Overview

This project focuses on improving oil recovery and carbon storage by utilizing supercritical CO2 foam in enhanced oil recovery (EOR). While CO2 foam has shown improved oil recovery due to its increased viscosity, its interactions with oil under high-pressure reservoir conditions are not well understood. To address this gap, the research will use custom-designed microfluidic chips for high-pressure testing and visualization. These chips will allow for the study of CO2 foam stability in the presence of oil and its efficiency in recovering oil under varying conditions, such as different pressures and surfactant types. By improving our understanding of foam dynamics at the pore scale, this work seeks to optimize CO2 foam performance for both oil recovery and carbon storage.
